NONTHABURI, Thailand – A 28-year-old Hong Kong national has died after falling from a hotel in Tambon Bang Khen, Mueang Nonthaburi, in the early hours of 11 September 2026, with police examining accounts from hotel staff that the man had said he was left without money after being extorted by a masseur. The man was identified as Mr Chan Sing Lam, 28, from Hong Kong, who had been staying at the hotel since 30 August and had been due to check out on 12 September.

At about 1.43am, Nonthaburi City Police Station received a report that a foreign man had fallen from a height at a hotel in the Bang Khen area. Officers from the Nontree 122 patrol unit attended with rescue workers and found Mr Chan lying in a pool of blood on the ground near the entrance to the hotel lobby, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nontree 121 patrol officer informed senior officers, while investigators and an on-duty doctor from the Central Institute of Forensic Science were called to inspect the room and gather evidence.

Hotel staff and witnesses told police that Mr Chan had earlier said a masseur had extorted all of his money and challenged him to make a police complaint, though they said he did not report the matter to authorities. About 30 minutes before the fall, Mr Chan reportedly came down to ask hotel employees for paper and a pen, saying he wanted to write a message, before returning to his room.

While staff were eating in the hotel dining room, they heard the sound of glass breaking, ran outside and found Mr Chan had fallen from the building. Forensic officers conducted a detailed examination of the room to establish the cause of the fall, and police have not announced a final finding.
